The Ultra Green Rock Flower Anemone, Phymanthus crucifer, belongs to the Actiniidae family and inhabits the western Atlantic Ocean, spanning from the coast of North Carolina to Brazil. In its natural habitat, these anemones prefer rocky areas with strong water currents, anchoring themselves securely to the substrate to capture passing prey using their tentacles.Celebrated for their ornate frills and vibrant, multicolored bodies exhibiting a variety of patterns and textures, Rock Flower Anemones form symbiotic relationships with small marine invertebrates like Sexy Shrimp, Porcelain Crabs, and Anemone Shrimp, creating visually striking partnerships.
Adapting well to varying lighting intensities, Rock Flower Anemones thrive under moderate lighting for optimal health. While inherently adaptable, maintaining stable water parameters without significant fluctuations is crucial for their overall well-being.
Despite the common perception of anemones as "high risk" due to their wandering and stinging tendencies, Rock Flower Anemones can establish themselves seamlessly and harmlessly when strategically placed. Proper placement involves gently positioning them on the sandbed or a rock structure, with the option of creating a designated rock island to prevent undesired movements.
During the introduction of a Rock Flower Anemone, it is advisable to temporarily pause water flow, allowing the creature to settle for approximately 15-20 minutes before resuming regular water movement. These anemones exhibit adaptability to various flow conditions, with moderate flow optimizing their short tentacles for efficient food capture from the water column. To promote robust health and accelerated growth, it is recommended to provide targeted feeding with meaty foods such as shrimp, Mysis, or small pellets 1-2 times a week.
Rock Flower Anemones present an excellent starting point for enthusiasts new to anemones, offering an opportunity to introduce vibrant colors into reef tanks. Their suitability for both novice and experienced hobbyists highlights their appeal as a versatile and visually striking choice for aquariums at all proficiency levels.
